What is ESG?
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG), also known as EndoSleeve, is a minimally invasive weight-loss procedure designed to help individuals achieve substantial weight loss and improve their overall health. This innovative technique involves the use of an endoscope—a flexible tube with a camera—inserted through the mouth into the stomach. The procedure reduces the size of the stomach by creating a sleeve-like structure, which limits food intake and promotes a feeling of fullness.
Minimally Invasive
ESG is performed without the need for major surgery. It does not require any incisions, leading to reduced pain and a quicker recovery time compared to traditional weight-loss surgeries.
No Permanent Alteration
Unlike some surgical weight-loss options, ESG does not involve permanent changes to the digestive system. This means that if necessary, patients can revert to their original anatomy.
Improved Quality of Life
Beyond weight loss, ESG can lead to improvements in obesity-related conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea. Many patients report enhanced energy levels and overall well-being after the procedure.
We utilize the latest advanced equipment to perform all our procedures. To perform ESG’s we use the Apollo ESG™ System. Dr. Bustamante is highly trained in the use of this amazing new technology.
The video below explains how we use the Apollo ESG™ System. Please watch it and let us know if you have any questions.
How is Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty performed?
After placing four to six endoscopic sutures in a specific pattern, the stomach will be reduced and shortened to approximately 60 to 70% of its original capacity.
How does Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty work?
The stomach remodeling will create a smaller stomach and will slow down the gastric motility. The result is that you will feel full faster and for a longer period of time, therefore you will eat less and LOSE WEIGHT!
Where is Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty performed?
The procedure is done in an endoscopy suite under general anesthesia and takes 40-60 minutes to complete.
What happens after Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty?
After the procedure you will go to the recovery area where you will be monitored for 2 to 3 hours and then you can go home the same day! However, if you feel more comfortable you can be admitted for observation overnight and discharged home the next day.
Is Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty safe?
ESG is SAFE. The risk of adverse events is very low (<1%) and these events are usually minor or uncomplicated. No deaths have been reported.
How effective is Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty?
ESG is EFFECTIVE. On average, patients lose 20% of their total body weight, but the majority of patients lose more weight when following the Be Better post-ESG plan.
